It’s become quite a tradition in country music for tour openers to play a prank on their headlining acts on the last weekend of the tour. Through the years, there have been pranks from farm animals to confetti and bubbles.
But, even Keith Urban wasn’t expecting this.
During a recent stop on Keith’s current Ripcord World Tour 2016 when he normally invites opener Maren Morris to perform Miranda Lambert’s part on his duet “We Were Us,” he couldn’t quite grasp what he saw come out onstage instead.
It certainly wasn’t Maren.
“Marvin Morris finally appeared,” Keith wrote on his Facebook page.
A man dressed up as Maren came out, bringing Keith quickly to his knees in disbelief. As the song went on, Keith couldn’t help but step away from the microphone since he was doubled over in laughter during most of the performance. Of course, just when the audience was wondering if Maren would ever join Keith, the CMA new artist of the year finally did walk out, wearing a matching outfit as the mystery man.
What a way to end a tour.
Yet, the year isn’t quite finished for Keith, as he will spend most of his December alongside none other than country superstar Carrie Underwood on the Australian and New Zealand leg of his tour.
Of note, both Keith Urban and Maren Morris are nominated in this year’s Rare Country Awards. Keith is up for Fan Moment of the Year, while Maren is nominated in the category of New Artist of the Year.
