Fireworks weren’t the only things sparkling as Nashville celebrated the end of 2016 and the start of 2017. Music City lived up to its moniker as acts like A Thousand Horses, Charlie Worsham, the city’s Fisk Jubilee Singers, rockers Moon Taxi and classic rock band Styx kicked off a night of entertainment that culminated with Keith Urban taking the stage in the city’s Bicentennial Mall.

For the thousands who braved the rain and cold in the outdoor venue, the pay-off was great, especially when the Aussie country superstar kicked off his high-energy set. Obviously, Keith peeled off as many of his hits as he could cram into his 90-minute set, but the highlight of the night may have been when he paid tribute to some of the stars we lost in the past year.

With just an acoustic guitar, Keith honored the late Leonard Cohen, Glenn Frey, David Bowie, Merle Haggard and Prince. But it wasn’t just the tribute, the music or Keith that made the audience go bonkers. Keith’s wife, Nicole Kidman, came dancing onto the stage and the crowd lost their minds. She even stepped up to the microphone to sing a little bit with her man.

And It. Is. Everything!

After the midnight musical note dropped and an impressive display of fireworks were shot off, Keith Urban continued performing for those who just weren’t quite ready to call it a night. But in downtown Nashville, where country music is pouring from every door, bar and honky-tonk, you almost don’t ever have to call it a night!

Happy New Year everyone!
