Keurig hopes you’ll want to make this from K-cups, too

Keurig Green Mountain, maker of the ubiquitous pod-based home and office coffee machine, has announced a new partnership with Anheuser-Busch InBev, one of the world’s largest brewers, to create an “in-home alcohol drink system.”

A press release announcing the venture confirms that, yes, it is exactly what it sounds like. The two corporations will “build on Keurig KOLD™ technology and system innovations and AB InBev’s brewing and packaging technology” to offer drink options “within the realm of the full adult beverage category, including beer, spirits, cocktails and mixers.” They will, at least initially, focus on the North American market.

Keurig KOLD™, you’ll recall, was the company’s venture into making pop at home. They hoped a loud, 20+ pound, $730 machine would best Sodastream and inherit a space in your kitchen next to your Keurig coffeemaker. They were wrong; many reviewers didn’t like them, sales were flat and the machine failed.

It’s early in the partnership, and no details — like which Bud Light “‘Rita” flavor we’ll be able to make in our kitchens first — are available at press time.
