Khloé Kardashian and her family have been through a lot in the last few years.

First, Khloé’s ex-husband Lamar Odom suffered a near-fatal overdose in 2015. Khloé took it upon herself to nurse Lamar back to good health, supporting him along his difficult journey to recovery.

Then, Khloé’s sister Kim Kardashian West was the victim of a violent robbery in Paris that left the entire family visibly shaken — even drastically cutting back on their social media appearances. And finally, Kanye West, who is now part of the Kardashian clan, suffered a nervous breakdown that landed him in the hospital for more than a week.

Toss in never-ending drama with brother Rob Kardashian, who recently had a child with Kylie Jenner’s boyfriend’s baby mama, and you can see that it’s been a year full of heartbreak, confusion, and drama for the popular reality TV family. But the world was happy to learn on Jan. 4 that Khloé is finally in a positive place after so many tumultuous events.

In a heartfelt update to her fans on her website, Khloé shared that she’s the happiest she’s been in years and a lot of her positive vibes are due in part to her new beau, Tristan Thompson.

“I think when you’re in love you definitely feel happy and healthy too. I like that my relationship is very normal and doesn’t need to be so publicized all the time. People aren’t wrong for putting all of their personal business out there, but I’ve learned from my mistakes and don’t need to do that anymore,” she said of her relationship with Thompson, 25, whom she started seeing in September 2016.

“I think being able to share my life in a way, while still keeping so many great memories for myself, is a sign of maturity and evolution,” she concluded. “So going into 2017, I wish you all a happy, peaceful year and hope that you live your life the way you want to!”
