Despite Jimmy Fallon’s best efforts to put on an entertaining show at the 74th annual Golden Globe Awards, the late night host’s jokes mostly fell flat. It was, therefore, a breath of fresh air when Kristen Wiig and Steve Carell took the stage to present an award and deliver the funniest three minutes of the evening.

The comedy duo began with a series of self-deprecating jokes. First, Wiig poked fun at the two of them having the same ‘do: “we get our haircut together.” After some charming banter on the subject, Carell adds, still in reference to the two of them going to the salon together, “I’ll have what she’s having, like the orgasm.” The audience couldn’t hold in their laughs!

Wiig and Carell were presenting the award for Best Animated Film, so naturally the two of them decide to share their fond memories of the first time they saw animated films as children. The catch? Those memories happen to coincide with traumatizing moments in their childhood. Carell discusses going to see the movie “Fantasia” with his father as a boy. It was a wonderful experience for him, but as soon as he left the theatre with his dad, that’s when his parents decided to tell him that they were getting a divorce. “I never saw my father again after that day. Fantasia day.” Wiig’s deadpan face throughout the entire unfolding of the experience is brilliant.

Carell then turns to Wiig for her first animated film experience. Wiig says that “Bambi” was her first animated film. “It was the same day we had to put our dogs down,” Wiig adds.

Maybe these two should host next year!
