Among her many top hits was her Christmas song “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which became an instant holiday classic as soon as it was released in November 1994.

In a 1996 visit to Japan, Carey was at the height of her popularity, and used the song as the closer to her setlist.

Complete with Santa hats, backup dancers and all the holiday trimmings, Carey’s version, recorded at the Tokyo Dome captures just how joyous the song is and also how popular Carey was at the time.

Over the last two decades, Carey has continued to sing the song nearly every Christmas, solidifying it as part of the holiday pop culture canon.
