Guess which one-time atheist has found religion?

On Christmas Day, Mark Zuckerberg indicated in a Facebook status that he was “celebrating Christmas.” He wrote: “Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah from Priscilla, Max, Beast and me,” naming his wife, daughter and dog.

An apparently confused commenter jumped in and asked him, “Aren’t you an atheist?”

It is true that the Facebook founder had identified himself as an atheist for years. But those days appear to be over; he wrote back, “No. I was raised Jewish and then I went through a period where I questioned things, but now I believe religion is very important.”

Another commenter wrote, “But why Facebook doesn’t notify that is Jesus birthday today???”

Zuckerberg responded, “You’re not friends with Jesus on Facebook?

There was no indication of which religion Zuckerberg most closely aligns or what aspect of religion he now deems very important in his life.

However, Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, have publicly discussed their moral values frequently. They authored a lengthy letter when their daughter was born a year ago in which they pledged to donate 99 percent of their Facebook stock — which, at about $45 billion at the time, was one of the largest philanthropic commitments ever.

They have also met Pope Francis to discuss bringing communication technology to the world’s poor.
