In the midst of stardom are times of sadness. And in a November 2013 interview on ABC as part of the “In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts,” country music superstar Luke Bryan reflected for a moment on two of the saddest losses of his life.

“My older brother Chris was unexpectedly killed in a car accident,” Bryan said in one of his first interviews he did about the loss of his only siblings. “What a crazy thing. I’m hyperventilating just thinking about it.”

Joined by his mother and father, Luke also touched on the loss of his dear sister, who died just days after Luke played the Grand Ole Opry. “You never truly move beyond it. But I tell my story because I want people to know that they are not alone. God is still gracious.”

Gracious indeed. Since the airing of this groundbreaking interview, Luke has gone on to become one of the most popular country music stars of our time. He will embark on his much anticipated Kill the Lights Tour on Feb. 18, performing nearly 70 concerts across the U.S. before wrapping this fall.
