Luke Bryan is just one of the 40 superstars taking part in the biggest country collaboration and video in history — “Forever Country” — in celebration of the upcoming 50th Annual CMA Awards.
Luke harmonizes with Miranda Lambert on a snippet of the song, which is a mashup of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You,” John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads” and Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again.”
For Luke, each of those songs has a real connection to his love of country music. He says, “These are songs that have immortalized country music. When you think about just the scope of ‘I Will Always Love You’ being one of the most successful songs in the history of music. It’s certainly up there with ‘Yesterday’ and huge songs that have changed, really, the world.”
When it comes to “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” Luke says it’s a real testament to the way he was raised on a farm down in South Georgia.
As for “On the Road Again,” Luke adds, “[It’s] Willie’s version of a bunch of guys getting together and getting out there, which embodies country music, too. I mean, we load up on these tour buses and take our shows to the fans.”
Mixing those three songs into one medley wasn’t easy for the producers, so Luke gives them a big shoutout.
“They did a great job at putting the songs together,” Luke explains, “and they made ’em all mean something separately, but then they blended ’em to where it’s pretty incredible hearing how it turned out.”
In addition to Luke, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Blake Shelton, Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Keith Urban, Alan Jackson and Trisha Yearwood are among the other superstars singing on “Forever Country.”
We can only hope they recreate this moment on the live broadcast of the 50th Annual CMA Awards coming up Wednesday, Nov. 2 on ABC.
