Case in point: James “Jim” Russell made his 57th anniversary to his wife Elinor special even though she had been hospitalized for a month. Instead of promising to do something when she got out, Jim got dressed in a tuxedo and took flowers and chocolate to her bedside.

His granddaughter posted a picture of the sweet gesture to Twitter, where it has since gone viral.

The couple’s kids actually came up with the idea, Jim said, and he went along with it.

The family did Elinor’s makeup, and the two spent the evening having dinner, talking to each other and watching their favorite shows, “Jeopardy” and “Wheel of Fortune,” together in the hospital room.

The two grew up in nearby Georgia towns but weren’t close then. Their relationship took off after Jim, a World War II veteran, returned from service and they reunited at Georgia Tech, they said.
