Melania Trump reacted to her husband and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s week of controversy surrounding the release of a controversial hot mic recording of a vulgar 2005 conversation involving the candidate, a series of audio clips where he spoke vividly with shock jock Howard Stern on his sexual activities, including infidelity, as well as his fascination with his daughter Ivanka, and allegations of sexual assault from various women.

Sitting down with CNN’s Anderson Cooper on Monday night, Trump defended her husband.

Cooper asked her about a common defense from the Trump campaign calling his hot mic comments “locker room talk”:

Cooper: Is that what it is to you, just locker room talk?
Trump: Yeah, it’s kind of two teenage boys, actually, they should behave better, right?
Cooper: He was 59.
Trump: Correct. And sometimes I said I have two boys at home. I have my young son and I have my husband. I know how some men talk and that’s how I saw it, yes.

On the allegations of sexual assault, Trump said that she believed her husband. Trump also verified her husband’s denial of an accusation of sexual assault from a People Magazine reporter, saying that certain details in the account had been fabricated.

Following the controversy over the weekend, several Republican politicians retracted their endorsements, called for Trump to drop out or refused to defend his comments (including his own vice presidential pick). Even campaign surrogate and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani said that Trump was describing sexual assault in the audio.

The Hill has compiled a thorough list of the Republicans who have pulled their support or asked Trump to step aside.
