She sent the tweet from her old Twitter account, which hasn’t been used since 2013, to assure her followers that she won’t be gone long, writing, “After an extraordinary 8 years, I’ll be taking a little break. Will be back before you know it to work with you on the issues we care about.”

Her message was similar to the one sent out by Barack Obama a few minutes earlier, when he tweeted, “Hi everybody! Back to the original handle. Is this thing still on? Michelle and I are off on a quick vacation, then we’ll get back to work.”

Both tweets sent a strong message to their supporters and detractors, letting them know that they might be gone from the White House, but they are still here, and they still have a voice.
