Starett Burke (Wallisville, Texas), Spencer Hall (Mont Belvieu, Texas), Chris Ruckman (Dayton, Texas) and their dog left to go duck hunting early on the morning of Jan. 6. After they failed to come home, Ruckman’s girlfriend called the Coast Guard on Friday evening.
The trio had launched a 17-foot flat-bottomed boat near Carancahua Bay, between Port Lavaca and Palacios, according to the Coast Guard. A combined search and rescue effort between the Coast Guard, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office yielded the bodies of the three and their dog, as well as their boat.
The Coast Guard confirmed there was a small craft advisory on the water on Friday and conditions were choppy. KPRC-2 reports that authorities do not suspect foul play in the deaths, though they are still investigating.
