When Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) appeared before his colleagues in the United States Senate on Wednesday to testify against the confirmation of Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) to be the next United States Attorney General, many felt that the move was an early audition to become the Democratic nominee for president in 2020.

In Mediaite, writer J.D Durkin claims that Booker’s presidential hopes are “the worst kept secret right about now in Washington.”

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough seemed to echo the sentiments of Durkin and countless others, and called out Booker on Thursday’s episode of “Morning Joe.”
“Has anybody seen anything as calculated, as obviously calculated as this?” Scarborough wondered with a heavy air of disbelief.
Though the panel cautioned that they all liked Cory Booker, they agreed that the gravity of his speech was overshadowed by questions about his personal ambitions.
Willie Geist chimed in that Booker “meant what he said,” but that his words were certainly to “get his profile up a little bit.”
Scarborough then told his audience that many Democratic senators were not happy with their colleague from New Jersey.
“There was a collective groan that went up during that. Very calculated and a lot of senators irked, especially on the Democratic side,” Scarborough said.
