Piers Morgan CNN failure: An important lesson for America

After three years and an editorial selection process that engaged ideology more than reality, CNN and Piers Morgan have decided to part ways. His last show is scheduled to broadcast in March.

Morgan was known by American audiences as that host from America’s Got Talent. You know, the guy on the panel who wasn’t David Hasselhoff. Morgan took over from living legend Larry King, and his show Larry King Live.

From the start, Morgan didn’t connect. But when he decided that his show would be about his hate and disdain for the Second Amendment, and those who support it, he lost the support of American audiences.

In his own words:

“It’s been a painful period and lately we have taken a bath in the ratings,” he said, adding that although there had been times when the show connected in terms of audience, slow news days were problematic.

As a radio host I can say, without hesitation, that there has not been a slow news day since January 20th, 2009.

Taking a bigger view of Morgan’s collapse, what is the message that America can take from it? It seems clear that Morgan wasn’t just wrong about his point of view connecting with American viewers. He was, as Evan Sayet would put it, “as wrong as wrong could be.”

In Sayet’s book, The Kindergarden of Eden; How the Modern Liberal Thinks, he illustrates how on every major subject the Leftist is on the side of evil over good, of injustice over justice. Applied to Morgan, this plays out perfectly. At every turn, Morgan sided with insulting lawful gun owners, attacking the Second Amendment and shaming those who would dare attempt a cogent argument on his program.

(As a side note, I have — for over a year — advocated that conservatives, Republicans, Independents, libertarians and moderates should not do his program. If they had, Morgan would have been off the air long ago.)

Morgan’s dismissal from CNN proves that the leftist is wrong as wrong can be. That for all of their screaming and anger, they have misjudged the American people and their view of the Second Amendment. Americans, it turns out, believe in lawful gun ownership, and won’t be bullied into giving up their rights.

Americans have said, through their lack of viewership, that Morgan was wrong. Where Morgan saw “slow news days,” the American people saw an ideologue who was unwilling and unable to talk about the real problems in America — targeting of American citizens by the IRS, the administration lying about what led to the death of four Americans in Benghazi, the failure of Obamacare, spying on citizens, massive debt, just to name a few of the slow news day subjects.

Morgan’s failure is of his own doing; he failed to be an active participant in reality. CNN allowed this failure to continue, indicating that any tears they shed over losing Morgan belong to crocodiles. For the media, this is a cautionary tale. For America, this is dangerous warning.

The media can now see that pushing ideology over honesty will not be rewarded with viewership. America can now see that pushing ideology over honesty is condoned by CNN (and mainstream media,) and they’ll keep on doing it until the very end.
