Nine people were stabbed and the perpetrator died after a violent attack in a Minnesota mall Saturday night. The attack was not related to the explosion that harmed 29 people in New York City on the same night.

On Sunday, Saint Cloud mayor Dave Kleis conducted a press conference that was streamed via Facebook Live to provide a statement to reporters and observers.

Kleis began with a word of thanks for the emergency personnel who responded to the scene. Kleis said that only three of the nine victims are still in the hospital. He did not release their names.

Kleis also praised Jason Falconer, the officer that shot and killed the aggressor to prevent him from harming anyone else. “He was in the right place at the right time,” said Kleis.

Saint Cloud Chief of Police Blair Anderson took the stage after him.

Anderson provided a timeline of events from the first 911 call to the death of the suspect inside of the mall. Anderson also provided some updates about the investigation of the suspect.

Anderson turned the mic over to a special agent who was working on the case. At the time of the interview, the men said that they could neither confirm nor rule out terror. Just after the conference concluded, the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack.

The suspect’s identity has not yet been released, nor details about his motivation.
