Hexagon-shaped floating shelves are all the rage in home decor right now. The shape and color make them look modern and rustic at the same time, so you know people are eating them up.

But there’s no need to go out and buy some — you can easily make them at home. In fact, it’s so easy, your kids could actually make them for you. If your kids enjoy classic Popsicle stick crafts, put them right to work.

You’ll need to draw a shape that is exactly the size you want your shelf to turn out, then use it as a guide. Then, place the Popsicle sticks on top of the stenciled shape and layer them to create depth. Once all the glue has dried, simply stain it to match your decor.

And just like that, you have the perfect mid-century-inspired pop of style to add to your home.
