Trace Adkins and Donald Trump go way back.

When Trace Adkins was part of Donald Trump’s first “Celebrity Apprentice” in 2008, he went deep into the competition. As the field whittled down to two final competitors, Trace was still standing tall.

On the live finale as he and Piers Morgan waited to learn who would emerge as champion, Trace performed his then No. 1 hit “You’re Gonna Miss This.”

These days he and the presidential hopeful are not exactly best friends, but he does have an insight into the candidate that few people do. So far, he hasn’t officially endorsed Trump for president.

“It’s funny how people ask me, ‘What’s Trump doing?’” Trace told Newsradio 950 in Detroit. “Like I know; like he calls me every day. I have no idea what he’s doing, but it certainly is entertaining to watch.”

“I’ve told people, too, you know… I think that if the world turned upside down and he actually won, he would be very serious about it,” said Trace. “I think that the gravity of the situation at some point would hit him, and he would deal with the situation in a much more mature way.”
