Rick Perry knows his hilariously awkward gaffe during the confirmation hearing is going straight to SNL

The confirmation hearings for Donald Trump’s cabinet picks have been tumultuous, to say the least. Thankfully, there have been interspersed moments of calm and, this morning, even a little bit of laughter. Senator Al Franken (D-MN) provided a bit of comic relief during the otherwise tense series of Capitol Hill hearings, when he joked to former Texas Governor Rick Perry, “thank you so much for coming into my office, did you enjoy meeting me?”

Perry responded “I hope you’re as much fun on that dais as you are on your couch,” which evoked a pretty hearty round of laughter from the chamber. When those present at the hearing calmed down, Perry joked, “I think we’ve just found our “Saturday Night Live” soundbite. Franken knows a lot about SNL as he was a writer and a performer on the show for several years.

Rick Perry has proven to be one of the more contested picks for Trump’s cabinet, though he is selected to run the energy department, he has previously stated that he wants to abolish the department. Perry has also been branded as a climate change critic which has led to significant criticism from Democratic groups.
