Rick Scott flew to Fort Lauderdale to deliver a strong message after the attack on Fort Lauderdale Airport

A shooter targeted travelers at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Friday afternoon, killing five and injuring eight. It was announced later on Twitter that Gov. Rick Scott would travel to Fort Lauderdale and be briefed by law enforcement:

Scott met with the press after the briefing.

“The citizens of Florida will not tolerate senseless acts of evil,” he began. “You just can’t imagine how this could ever happen in a state like ours.”

Scott recalled the victims of the attack, as well as the details passed on to him by the Broward Sherriff’s Office.

“Whoever is responsible will be held accountable to the full extent of the law,” he vowed.

The governor indicated that he wanted to keep both the state’s residents and visitors safe. “I don’t ever want this to happen again.”

Scott said that he reached out to President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence during the question period. When asked whether or not he reached out to President Obama, Scott said that he did not.

Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) informed the press of the shooter’s identity.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) had a message of prayer for the victims.
