Ferrer was best known to television fans as a longtime cast-member of “NCIS: Los Angeles.” Rumors had swirled in the last year that Ferrer was ill, after photos circulated of him where he seemed very underweight.

In a 2014 interview with TV Fanatic, Ferrer spoke of why he felt the “NCIS” franchise was different from other procedural shows on TV.

“The procedural is just tried and true. It’s been dressed up in a million ways, and it’s just something that fascinates people and continues to do so. It’s just the way it’s presented, and I think these guys have obviously found a way to do it that people enjoy watching, first with NCIS and now with LA,” Ferrer said.

“It’s just a winner, and they keep doing what they’re doing and keep improving on it every season, and with any luck, we’ll be around for a long time to come.”
