“Celebrities Read Mean Tweets” is now a cornerstone for the modern “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” In the popular skit, Kimmel gets his various guests to go on air and read tweets that insult them in front of a set with the Twitter logo positioned so it is pooping on the stars. This the 10th official installment of the series that has branched out to cover Oscar nominees, country music stars, athletes and even the President of the United States.
“Are these real, or do you make them up to be especially nasty?” asks Hugh Grant after one Twitter user mocks his charm.
An instrumental of “Everybody Hurts” by R.E.M. plays in the background as the celebrities read hard takedowns of their public personas and careers.
“Why does Ryan Gosling always look like he’s trying to squeeze a fart out without it making any noise?” Reads Ryan Gosling, who responded: “Because I’m a gentleman”.
This installment features several stars of “Captain America: Civil War,” Bryan Cranston, Norman Reedus, Margot Robbie and a particularly funny reading by Olivia Wilde.
Some of the guests laugh (whether it’s genuine or not is up to you to decide), some awkwardly agree and some silently look at the camera, judging the legions of people who tweet at and about them.
