Now, this is exactly what you need to take some time out of your busy day and reconnect with what really matters in life.
Country star Ashley Monroe, who you probably know as one-third of Miranda Lambert’s group Pistol Annies, just delivered a stirring rendition of one of our favorite hymns, “In the Garden,” at the Grand Ole Opry.
The song has been sung by just about every country legend over the years, from Willie Nelson and Glen Campbell to Johnny Cash and Alan Jackson. There’s just something about Ashley’s plaintive delivery on the song that conveys the relief she feels in this quiet moment with God. The fact that the performance takes place on the Grand Ole Opry stage only gives it a stronger connection to those legends who have performed “In the Garden” in the past.
Learning a little bit about Ashley’s backstory only makes this performance that much more meaningful. Her father passed away from cancer when she was only 13 years old. The loss hit her mom hard, and Ashley started pursuing her dream of singing country music at age 15 in Nashville. She details it all in the title track of her 2013 album, “Like a Rose.”
This version of “In the Garden” is just further proof that Ashley has lived a lot of life and come out stronger on the other side.
