Huma Abedin, one of Hillary Clinton’s closest aides, is going to need to have a talk with her older sister, Heba, who seems determined to do whatever it takes to get a presidential election recount — even if it means glomming onto fake news.

Heba urged her nearly 1,500 Facebook friends to call the Department of Justice because of the farcical notion that it was keeping count of calls to see if an audit of the vote is warranted. The Department of Justice came out and said that simply is not true. Heba has at least deleted the post, which you can see below. It caused quite the headache, because the bit of fake news had been tweeted, blogged and reposted repeatedly by Clinton sympathizers.

It appears that the Facebook post Heba published was simply copied and pasted from elsewhere. According to the Daily Mail, identical ones were on Reddit. The message was shared and eventually went viral. But, as with so much other information online these days, it was actually misinformation.

Heba’s activism comes after Green Party candidate Jill Stein announced she was raising millions of dollars to pay for a recount in Wisconsin, a move the Clinton campaign initially declined to participate in, though it has since reversed course. President-elect Donald Trump won Wisconsin by 27,000 votes, making him the first Republican to win the state since 1984.

A spokesperson for the the Department of Justice said: “The Justice Department does not tally the number of callers to determine whether federal action is warranted. Investigatory decisions are based solely on the facts and evidence as they relate to the federal statutes the department enforces.”

Heba’s sister, Huma, has been close to Clinton for two decades and is part of her inner circle. Her name made national headlines following her estranged husband Anthony Weiner’s latest sexting scandal became entwined with Clinton’s controversial email investigation by the FBI late in the campaign.
