NBC’s “The Voice” is back in action, which means viewers are already placing their bets on their favorite singers!
The season 11 premiere episode, which aired on Monday, Sept. 19, saw 10 incredibly talented hopefuls. But, it appears as though things are only getting started.
In fact, a sneak peek of one contestant’s blind audition reveals that child country star Billy Gilman has signed on to join the competition. Fans may recall that Billy rose to fame with his Top 20 single called “One Voice” back in 2000. But, he’s been on hiatus ever since.
Now, at 28 years old, Billy is as determined as ever to make a comeback. This time it’s with a new kind of voice. And, just by judging from the coaches’ reactions to Billy’s blind audition, we’d say that he has a pretty good shot at winning the whole thing!
As you can see in this video, Billy takes the stage, but he doesn’t croon a country song. Instead, he slays a rousing rendition of Adele’s popular hit “When We Were Young.” Needless to say, it didn’t take long at all for judges Adam Levine and Miley Cyrus to turn their chairs. Heck, by the end of his rendition, Billy got all four judges to swivel around!
Blake Shelton and Miley were quick to recognize the singer. And, Miley even learned that Billy was once the opening act for her father, Billy Ray Cyrus.
“Wait, I know your music!” she exclaimed. “Yes. I know who the hell you are! Let me take care of you.”
“It’s crazy, Billy, because you always wonder, ‘What ever happened to somebody?’” said an astonished Blake, adding, “Now, you’ve found your sound, and where you belong musically and I’m happy for you man.”
Billy’s family waited in the wings with joyful tears, as each coach tried their luck at persuading him to join their team. But, boy oh boy did Miley and Adam put up a good fight!
Trying to call dibs Adam said, “I don’t know what the order was. I was first. I haven’t sat down, because I can’t. It’s not physically possible at this point.”
He continued, “Rarely do I [ever] hear everything happen on this stage. That intangible quality that you possess is exactly what embodies the person that wins this show. You really could be the guy. I’m blown away and I’m not sitting down until you join my team.”

With that Miley said, “I’d love to help you become the new Billy, because I had to make that decision. I know how I want people to see me and I’m very clear about that. So, I would love to help you be clear to people about who you are.”
Admitting that he had never felt so nervous in his life, Billy ended up choosing Adam as his coach. Best of luck, Billy!
