On Thursday, TMZ first reported that Brad Pitt was under investigation by the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Families and the LAPD for alleged physical verbal and physical abuse against the six children he shares with actress Angelina Jolie.

The investigation reportedly began after Pitt had an outburst on a private plane with his children in which he supposedly became belligerent and yelled at and got “physical” with his family.

Following the news, The Hollywood Reporter spoke with Sgt. Barry Montgomery who denied the investigation.

“We have no criminal investigation that we are actively pursuing,” Montgomery said. “To my knowledge, [Pitt talking to police] never happened. And right now, that is where our office is. We are not investigating any case, nor do we have any allegations against Mr. Pitt. We understand how rumors get spun up, and hopefully we can put a few of them to rest. We have no investigation involving Mr. Pitt.”

A spokesperson for DCFS could not confirm nor deny the investigation.

“We have very strict confidentially laws that don’t allow us to confirm or deny the subjects of our investigations,” spokeswoman Amara Suarez told THR.

Now, TMZ reports that the investigation has been handed over to the FBI. They maintain that an anonymous tip came in to DCFS after last week’s incident and it is being investigated.

The tabloid’s law enforcement sources claim that the LAPD’s Child Abuse Unit was made aware of the report but determined that they did not have jurisdiction because the alleged incident occurred while the family was in air on a flight from France to the U.S..

Because it happened during the flight, the FBI would have jurisdiction.

Sources close to Pitt are reportedly denying all abuse allegations.
