A car ended up in an Oregon ditch Wednesday after the driver was startled by a potentially friendly but nonetheless creepy visitor.

A spider dropped from a mirror in the car and surprised the driver, causing the car to leave the road and overturn, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

“Spider season is in full swing,” the Sheriff’s Office noted, adding that the driver was not injured in the crash.

This is far from the first time a spider has caused a crash. In 2015, an Indiana woman who found a spider on her shoulder was so alarmed that she leaped from the car as she was backing out of her driveway, USA Today reports.

Her 9-year-old son jumped into the front seat and tried to hit the brake but hit the gas instead, launching the car into a passing school bus. The boy suffered minor injuries, according to USA Today.

Earlier this year, a car ran off an Ohio road and crashed in a field after the car’s driver was distracted by a spider, the driver said, according to a WTVT report.

And yes, spider season is a thing in Oregon. The Oregonian reports that late summer and early fall is when garden spiders spin their webs, lay eggs and eventually die. Early fall also is when male spiders begin to appear more frequently as they search for mates.
