At just three years old Victoria Welcher has a long recovery ahead after being attacked by three pit bulls several months ago. The little girl, who has scars and a bandage over what was once her right eye, was asked to leave a Mississippi Kentucky Fried Chicken recently because her appearance was bothering other customers.
“She was on a feeding tube at the time, but I figured she could just swallow (the potatoes). They just told us, they said, ‘We have to ask you to leave because her face is disrupting our customers,’” Victoria’s grandmother told Sky News.
After taking Victoria’s story to the Internet, the Welcher family has received a huge amount of support, and seen heavy backlash towards the KFC restaurant chain.
The chicken giant reached out to the Welcher’s to make things right by pledging $30,000 to help offset the cost of Victoria’s hospital bills.
Despite the attention her story has received, Victoria’s grandmother warns that the child’s healing process isn’t close to the finish line.
“When we go to a store, she doesn’t even want to get out (of the car). She’s three years old and she’s embarrassed about what she looks like. She’s embarrassed and I hate it because she shouldn’t be. It ain’t her fault.”
