Colorado voters are angry after one of their House representatives ducked out of a constituent meeting early, leaving by the back door, stepping into a Lexus and driving away as over 100 people waited to talk to him.

Denver News9 reporter Nelson Garcia caught the incident in a short video that’s gaining attention as a symbol of the callousness with which some Republicans are approaching the repeal of the Affordable Care Act.

At 1:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, Senate Republicans voted on a budgetary “blueprint” that would repeal Obamacare, and House Republicans passed a vote to draft legislation to repeal the Affordable Care Act on Friday January 13th. The same day, Rep. Mike Coffman’s (R, CO-06) name appeared under an op-ed in the Denver Post of almost 800 words, calling Obamacare a law that has “failed Coloradans — it hasn’t made health care affordable or accessible.”

Along with fellow Colorado House Republicans Ken Buck, Doug Lamborn and Scott Tipton, Coffman said “replacing President Obama’s failed health care law will be a difficult and complex process, but we are fully committed to implementing health care reforms that will ensure every Coloradan and Americans in all corners of the country have access to affordable, patient-centric health care services.”

After a week that saw Republicans get as close as they’d ever come to repealing Obamacare through the legislative process, Coffman didn’t seem to want to answer questions. Instead, at a planned “one-on-one” session on Saturday with constituents at an Aurora, Colo., public library, the Denver Post reports the Congressman saw just four at a time for five minutes each. The event was so popular that police had to use crime scene tape to form an orderly line. Then, the Colorado Congressman left the library before the end of the event. Police ushered him to a waiting Lexus.

In the video, people in line to see him, some having waited for over an hour, can be heard shouting sarcastic farewells.

Coffman has called Obamacare a “disaster” that would “kill 2 million American jobs.” Almost 420,000 Coloradans have insurance through the Affordable Care Act.

Coffman’s chief of staff, Ben Stein, invited those who were left behind to try again in a statement to the press.

“For those who were unable to see the Congressman today we apologize. These constituents are invited to attend upcoming meeting opportunities and we will block more time so that he can hear from more of his constituents.”

He did not say whether Coffman would hold another one before the House finishes drafting their repeal of the Affordable Care Act.
