President-elect Donald Trump has had trouble enlisting “A-list” talent to perform at Friday’s inauguration, but as he told Fox News anchor Ainsley Earhardt in a sit-down interview that will run in full Wednesday, he doesn’t want them anyway. He reiterated his desire for the real celebrities — the people who voted for him — to be there.

In fact, Trump said he didn’t even invite some of the singers who have said they would not perform, such as Elton John, Garth Brooks and Celine Dion.

“They weren’t asked to sing,” Trump said.

Downplaying the lack of celebrity star power scheduled for his big day, the former host of “The Apprentice” doubled down on the notion that he doesn’t want big names singing for him.

“Many of the celebrities that are saying they’re not going, they were never invited,” Trump said. “I don’t want the celebrities, I want the people, and we have the biggest celebrities in the world there.”

It’s not the first time Trump has made the claim. During his impromptu press conference last month from his Florida resort in Mar-a-Lago, he said he wants “the people” to attend his presidential inauguration, dismissing the “so-called A-list celebrities” who he claimed were actually seeking tickets the inauguration.
