In honor of the 15th anniversary of the terror attack that devastated the U.S. on 9/11/01, 2,997 American flags were placed in the quad at Los Angeles’ Occidental College.
The beautiful memorial was created by the College Republican Club. Each flag represented a victim who died 15 years ago.
“At midnight early this morning, vandals crushed, snapped, and threw in the garbage every single flag. Not one was left in the ground. Not only did they destroy the memorial, they put posters and flyers up that shamed the victims of 9/11,” the student organization wrote on Facebook.
Vandals removed every single flag from the ground, crushing and snapping them before tossing them into the trash in an act of disrespect to those who tragically lost their lives. Additionally, the vandals put up a sign that read “R.I.P the 2,996 Americans who died in 9/11. R.I.P the 1,455,590 innocent Iraqis who died during the U.S. invasion for something they didn’t do.”
Students and locals were quick to comment on the hideousness of these actions.
Occidental College still does not know who is responsible for the vandalism. According to FOX News, the school is investigating “and will take disciplinary action.”
