There are hit songs that become legendary because they have amazing lyrics or a cool banjo line or a beat that no one can deny.

But then there are songs that mean something.

And this song means so much to the legendary Willie Nelson.

“Ray was as a close a friend as you could have,” Willie once told “Rolling Stone Country” about his friend Ray Price.”We traveled together, lived together, played music together, partied together… and had a lot of good times.”

It was those good times that inspired Willie to participate in the new album “For the Good Times: A Tribute to Ray Price.” The compilation album is set for release on Sept. 16.

One of the standout tracks on the album is “Heartaches By the Number,” which Ray took to the top of the charts back in 1959.

Not only does the sweet-sounding song harken back to sweeter times, but it also features the incredible musicianship of none other than country legend Vince Gill, who plays guitar on half of the songs on the album and offers backing vocals alongside his very own Time Jumpers band.

And the respect in that room during the recording process – well, it just might be the sweetest part of the entire song.
