When Dale Earnhardt Jr. announced that he wouldn’t be able to race his No. 88 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet during the remainder of the 2016 NASCAR season due to complications from a concussion he suffered earlier this year at Michigan International Speedway, fans immediately considered it quite a tragedy.
Yet, as if to show fans that he knows how to keep things in perspective, he recently spent some time with a cancer patient whose circumstances are far more tragic.
According to Country Music Rebel, the woman’s name is Susan Thompson and she has been going through various chemo treatments this year. She was lucky to be at the right place at the right time as Dale walked around the grounds of the recent University of Tennessee/Virginia Tech football game held at Bristol Speedway.
When Dale saw her standing in the crowd, he stopped everything and came over to spend a few precious seconds with the woman. They even had time to take a picture together – a memento that is sure to be cherished for years to come. Luckily, ESPN was on hand to film some video for the impromptu moment.
The moment certainly served as a nice break for Dale and a beautiful moment for Susan!
