If you were one of the millions of people who watched the hit TV movie, “Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors,” then you’ll be excited to know the movie’s sequel, “Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love,” packs just as strong an emotional punch as the original.

Jennifer Nettles returns in the role of Dolly’s mother in the movie, and she tells Rare Country this Christmas-themed story will have your emotions running high.

“We get to further into the story,” Jennifer says. “We get to further the story of this family, of Dolly’s dream, of how she came to be Dolly Parton. There’s a blizzard, and there’s a near-death. Yes, it is high-drama, as well as high-humor.”

A lot of that drama plays out as Dolly’s father is trapped in a coal mine in the film. The tense situation leads to a spiritual breakthrough for Mr. Parton.

Says Jennifer, “His faith is really tested. And through his belief we get to come out of that in a way that he and Pastor Jake, [his father-in-law], are able to understand and celebrate each other.”

As an added bonus for viewers, Dolly herself appears in “Christmas of Many Colors,” playing the local “town trollop,” who inspired the big hair and outrageous outfits Dolly wears to this day.

“Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love” airs at 9 p.m. ET Wednesday, Nov. 30 on NBC.
