In the town hall style debate Sunday night, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump got a resounding cheer from the crowd, which is supposed to remain silent during the debate.
Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton made a comment about fact checking Trump. “Last time, at the first debate, we had millions of people fact checking. So I expect we’ll have millions more fact checking. You know, it is just awfully good that someone with the temperament of Donald Trump is not in charge of the law of the country.”
“Because you’d be in jail,” he replied, to an eruption from the audience.
The first moments of the debate were particularly tense, as Donald Trump attempted to defend and explain his comments on a 2005 video tape showing him making vulgar comments about women. Many have noted that his language describes sexual assault.
Why do we have presidential debates?
