Every love story has its beginning, and for Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert it all started onstage back in 2005.
Lambert had recently begun making a name for herself after appearing as a finalist on “Nashville Star,” so she was asked to be a part of CMT’s 100 Greatest Duets concert. She joined Shelton for a duet of “You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma” and the rest is history.
“I’ve never had that kind of experience with anybody,” Shelton recalls in an episode of “Behind the Music.”
“I was a married guy, you know? Standing up there and singing with somebody and going, ‘Man, this shouldn’t be happening.’ Looking back on that, I was falling in love with her, right there on stage,” he said.
Miranda agreed, saying, “It was just like this draw to each other. It was just sort of this inevitable chemistry.”
Five years after that fateful duet, Blake and Miranda got married, and during last week’s Country Music Awards the happy couple took home the honors for female artist of the year and male artist of the year.
Time flies when you’re in love.
