U.S. Army Soldier Joseph Kunkel overcame the odds in his return home to surprise his wife Jena just before she gave birth to their daughter, Ryleigh Mae.
Kunkel’s flight home was initially cancelled, reports CBS 6.
“I had a ticket to go from Lawton to Dallas to Baltimore; and when I got to the Lawton Airport, they canceled my flight,” he said. After that, a fellow soldier stepped in and drove Kunkel three hours away to Dallas, where his flight was delayed but got him to New York in time.
When Kunkel arrived, he posed, wearing a mask and scrubs over his military clothes.
Jena recognized her husband after a few seconds of confusion.
“The most beautiful thing; I will remember this day for the rest of my life,” Jena said. “Not only obviously because it’s our first born, but just the miracle of how everything worked so perfectly.”
“I fell in love with my baby as soon as I saw her,” Joseph Kunkel said. “She was just waiting extra long; I swear she knew that her daddy was coming.”
