What do you do when someone on the street asks you for money?

When youʼre stopped in your car or walking down the street and are approached by someone asking for money, what do you do? A lot of people these days donʼt carry cash or donʼt feel comfortable handing over the cash they do have. We want to help, but we want to know that that weʼre giving somebody in need something that will truly help them. Thatʼs where Blessing Bags come in.

Blessing Bags are a way to help people who come to you asking for help. Gather items (as many or as few as you want) that will truly help people in need, and have them in bags in your car ready to hand out when youʼre approached. There are so many things that can go into a blessing bag, including hygiene items (like a toothbrush and toothpaste, band-aids, and antibacterial wipes) and food (like granola bars and juice boxes). You might also want to add things like a prayer card or a list of homeless shelters in the area for further help.

These donʼt have to be an expensive project at all! Most items are available at the dollar store, and you can put the bags together with friends to split the cost. Itʼs a fun activity you can do with your kids, too, to help them understand the concept of giving back and to appreciate the items in their lives that they might take for granted. Bags can be handed out when youʼre approached, or you can take several with you and hand them out to the homeless.

Set aside some time to make blessing bags to ensure that, when youʼre called upon, you are ready to help!
