“When We Rise,” loosely inspired by a memoir by Cleve Jones, is dedicated to retelling the various fights for LGBT rights in America. The series will cover defining moments in history, such as the 1960 Stonewall riots in New York and the advancements of 1970 lesbian activists The Lavender Menace.

Pearce is cast as Jones, while Goldberg will play Pat Norman, the “first openly gay employee of the San Francisco Health Department.” O’Donnell will portray Del Martin, “co-founder of the first US lesbian organisation.”

The series will air in February 2017.
