At Wednesday night’s 2015 CMA Awards, hosts Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood got things off to a hot start with a hilarious monologue that saw the two hosts joking about everything from Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert to Caitlyn Jenner.

After opening up with a “Star Wars” themed short film, Paisley and Underwood got into rare form, quickly joking about how many celebrity couples have broken up this year.

“Of course we can’t ignore the break up that really rocked our world, the break up that’s on everybody’s mind,” Underwood joked.

As soon as the crowd thought they would cut to recently divorced country heavy-weights Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert, the camera panned out to Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy, another recently split up couple.

Before they moved on to the next joke, Paisley had a chance to say hi to the true star of the joke.

“On a completely unrelated topic… howdy, Blake,” Paisley said, while barely being able to hold in his smile.

As the monologue progressed the two scanned the crowd for little jokes about some of the nominees, including telling Luke Bryan that he had some “nice buns.”

While recapping some of the new things that happened this year, Paisley and Underwood caught some strife for a joke about Caitlyn Jenner.

“McDonalds all day, now… Bruce Jenner’s a babe, now… and Trump’s leading in the polls,” they sang in a tune about what had changed in the last year.

After William Shatner stopped by for a bit about the new “Stars Wars” film, the duo were ready to start the show, but not before Brad Paisley dropped his pants, officially kicking off the 49th edition of the awards.
