“He had more than one picture of her,” the source stated. “It was clear that he was paying attention to her.”

On November 13, four students, Madison Mogen,21, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin, 20, were fatally stabbed in their off-campus home in Moscow, Idaho by a masked intruder who used a fixed-blade knife. After a month-long investigation, authorities arrested Bryan Kohberger, a 28-year-old graduate student and teaching assistant at Washington State University, on charges of four counts of murder and one count of felony burglary.

On December 30, Kohberger was arrested at his parents’ home in Pennsylvania, and he voluntarily waived his extradition to Idaho. On January 4, he was transported back to Idaho to face the charges against him.

A probable cause affidavit obtained by PEOPLE revealed that one of the roommates who survived the attack saw the perpetrator, describing them as a man wearing black clothing and a mask who walked past her while leaving the crime scene. The affidavit further claimed that DNA evidence and cell phone pings linked Kohberger to the crime scene. Despite this evidence, authorities have yet to disclose the alleged motive behind the attack, and a judge has imposed a gag order to prevent many of the details from being made public. Kohberger has yet to enter a plea yet, and his next hearing is scheduled for June 26.
