Alex Murdaugh was sentenced on Friday morning to two life sentences in prison, with the sentences running consecutively. Murdaugh’s sentencing comes a day after the 54-year-old was found guilty of the murders of his wife, 52-year-old Maggie, and 22-year-old Paul.

He is facing two counts of murder and two weapon charges for the June 7th, 2021 shooting.  Authorities stated that he killed his wife and son as financial and personal struggles became very overwhelming. Prior to sentencing, he addressed judge Clifton Newman, saying, “I’m innocent. I would never hurt my wife Maggie. And I would never hurt my son Paul Paul.”

Before Murdaugh spoke, prosecutor Creighton Waters had asked for two consecutive life sentences, calling him a “cunning manipulator. A man who placed himself above all others, including his family.”

“A man like this man should never be allowed to be among free, law-abiding citizens again,” Waters stated.  Just before the sentencing, Newman had addressed him saying, “I know you have to see Paul and Maggie during the nighttime when you’re attempting to go to sleep. I’m sure they will come and visit you.”

After Murdah claimed he was innocent for the second time, Newman stated “It might not have been you. It might have been the monster you become. When you take 20, 40, 50, 60 opioid pills, maybe you become another person.”

Paul was tragically shot in the head and chest with a shotgun at close range. Maggie was shot several times, including one shot in the back and several other shots while she was lying on the ground. She was shot with a 300 Blackout ammo from an AR-style rifle, and both of them were pronounced dead at the scene.

Murdaugh’s defense team had insisted that he was visiting his mother at the time of the murders. He had initially stated that he wasn’t near the dog kennels, but according to a Snapchat video taken by Paul, he was seen at the scene at 8:44 p.m., 5 minutes before authorities stated that Maggie and Paul were murdered.

While on stand in his own defense, Murdaugh went on to admit that he had lied about his whereabouts, siding he didn’t trust the police and admitting that he was paranoid due to a 20-year-old opioid addiction.

This isn’t it for Murdaugh, as he is also facing several other legal charges for alleged financial crimes, including misappropriating money from his own law firm as well as defrauding clients of funds and computer crimes. Authorities also allege that he defrauded the family of his former housekeeper out of a $4.5  million insurance settlement after she died due to a mysterious slip-and-fall accident at their home.  A trial for those charges are said to be held at a later date.

  1. I can’t understand why a murderer is allowed to live and his son and wife are dead. He deserves the electric chair. It is because of soft on crime that so many innocent people die at the hands of a low life
knowing he will live off the people’s tax dollars and get three meals a day and the victims get no justice.

    • They are NOT USING THE DEATH PENALTY, at this time.. I Truly BELIEVE that WHAT HE GOT, will be MUCH WORSE THAN A. QUICK execution!! IN THIS WAY, HE WILL HAVE TO THINK OF WHAT HE HAS DONE! HE ALSO, WILL BE LOCKED UP WITH MANY PEOPLE, THAT HE HAS PUT IN THERE! LIVING IN PRISON FOR HIM, WILL BE FAR MUCH WORSE, THAT DEATH! YEARS AGO, when I was in Law ENFORCEMENT, I MET ALEX, ON OUT WATERFRONT PARK, WHEN HE RAN INTO ME, WHILE NIT WATCHING WHERE HE WAS GOING.. WE LAUGHED, INTRODUCED OURSELVES, SHOOK HANDS, AND WENT ABOUT OUR BUSINESS! ONE NEVER KNOWS, WHAT A TRUE PIECE OF WORK, THE NEXT PERSON IS!!

  2. Unfortunately the tax payers have to support him! But I believe he will go to hell and back for what he has done! The chair would be to easy, make him suffer!!!

  3. Too many unanswered questions to take someone’s life just because you think he is guilty. Where is the test results on the hair in Maggie’s hand? Whose tire tracks were present that night. The sheriff said the crime scene was not secured and no tire track impressions taken, nor footwear impressions outside of the kennel. I think it should be appealed since Netflix aired a documentary making all of the Murdaugh family look bad 3 days before the jury got it. Don’t tell me none of those jurors saw it prior to deciding his fate. I’m not saying he didn’t do it, but everything should be explored. No doubt due to evidence, not because he was a liar and crook.

  4. Everyone is so eager to just take someone’s life even tho there is no positive that he did it! I am certainly glad it’s not me out there with all these know it alls decidi
G on my life or death think about the only fact there really is and that is there is no positive evidence that he killed them only circumstantial and look how many innocent t people have gotten released from prison because a bunch of people judged them and oops they were wrong! But they sure were convinced they were right and ruined someone’s life because they were so judgmental and they thot they were right! I hope they never get there life snatched from them because someone was sure they were guilty just because they thot so!

  5. Only ALEX And GOD KNOW THE TRUTH.
I thought that is why we had a court system. Innocent til proven GUILTY. Those jurors might have all decided he was guilty but they were not there. The entire case was circumstantial. There was doubt. He may have done it but in my opinion it was NOT Proven. It supose to be proven he did it BEYOND a reasonable doubt. I think the jurors got it wrong..

  6. I’m glad he didn’t get the death penalty or the chair….way to easy for him.
He needs to suffer for the rest of his life for doing the horrible killing of his beloved wife and son. May he suffer every time he closes his eyes day and night.

  7. No doubt this guy was a liar an addict and stole from his clients and firm but that does not make him a killer. There was more evidence that needed checked. You can’t say someone is guilty of a crime because he is a liar, thief and an addict. Someone should not be convicted w so many reasonable doubts and there are many in this case. The hair the tires all of it. I dk if he did it or not and if would have been in that jury I could not have convicted him of murder w all the evidence not being investigated just because he was a liar a thief and an addict.

  8. The prosecution did a sloppy job. No DNA samples on anything. Too much inconclusive. And a witness was excused close to the end of the trial. Maybe she was the one who disagreed with the others. May have ended in a hung jury.
