Timothy Bliefnick, 39, of Quincy, Ill., was taken into custody after police recovered his wife’s body inside their house. She had been shot multiple times.
Authorities were alerted to what was believed to be a break-in after Bliefnick’s wife, Rebecca Bliefnick, 41, failed to pick up their three sons from school. She was at first discovered by a relative.
The couple had been separated for several years and were going through divorce proceedings at the time of her death.
Until the arrest of Bliefnick, many Quincy residents feared the murder was random and the killer was still at large.
“This brutal crime has had the Quincy community on edge and our residents living in fear,” Quincy Police Chief Adam Yates said on the department’s Facebook page.
“I hope today’s announcement can begin to calm some of those concerns.”
The couple wed in 2009, according to reports. Timothy Bliefnick appeared on Family Feud with his own family in 2020.
Rebecca’s family expressed a sense of relief over Timothy’s arrest.
“While the arrest today provides a step towards closure, this journey is far from over and the investigation continues,” they said, Fox News Digital reported.
“Our highest priority remains protecting and loving Becky’s sons who were the lights of her life. As we continue mourning, we will love and care for them in the ways we know she would want.”
