The body of a man wrapped in plastic was discovered inside a grocery cart near the entrance of Food Maxx grocery store in Chico, Calif., leaving authorities wondering how it got there.

The unnamed individual was believed to have been inside the cart near the store for several days before anyone noticed, Chico police said.
Emergency responders eventually arrived after receiving a call from a customer who saw what they thought was a dead body inside the cart. Authorities said the man had sustained multiple injuries.
The injuries and the fact that the individual had been wrapped in plastic led investigators to consider the case a homicide. But beyond that, not much else has been determined.
That said, security footage from the grocery store may be offering some clues, Lt. Brian Miller told Action News Now.
“We were able to see some movement, we were able to see the shopping cart, the suspect,” Miller said. “It was there for days, I don’t know how long … but for days.”
Still, police have not yet named a suspect in what is a rare homicide in Chico. No other homicides have been reported in the city in the past 12 months, with just reported in 2021.
