Smoke ’em if you got ’em, and if you don’t got ’em, then steal ’em. That seemed to be the theory of a group of thieves in Santa Cruz, Calif., who snatched and ran away with some marijuana. And by “some,” we mean about $500,000 worth.

That’s half a million bucks. That’s a lot of weed.
But that’s what surveillance video showed, as the thieves broke into the 3Bros marijuana warehouse in the middle of the night — or about 2:30 a.m. — to commit the caper. Once it was complete, they drove off in different directions, the video showed.
In all, it took them less than 15 minutes from start to finish, witnesses said.
15 Minute Heist
“They were masked up, clubbed up, and I had a really hard time even making the description of the people because of the weapons I saw,” a male witness told KSBW.
This marked the second marijuana robbery in three nights, and police suggested the two are related.
“Unfortunately, this isn’t something that’s just occurring in Santa Cruz,” Police Deputy Chief Jon Bush told KSBW. “It’s across all the Bay Area and the region, especially with the recent increase in marijuana dispensaries being allowed to sell marijuana.”
Police said the thieves are likely using stolen vehicles with stolen plates, making it tougher to catch them — but certainly not impossible. That’s especially true since the thieves will likely start selling the stuff on the open market at discounted rates. Eventually, authorities are generally able to make arrests that way.
Police added that thieves often will target marijuana warehouses because they believe the stores have a lot of cash lying around.
Newsflash: They don’t. S if you’re a criminal, you are probably thinking the net best thing is to steal the product. What you do with it … well, you don’t really know. No one ever said you had to be smart to pull off a heist.
