On May 28, 1998, Phil Hartman was gunned down in his bed by his wife Brynn Omdahl.

For the much of the previous two decades Hartman provided great laughs on shows like “Saturday Night Live” and “The Simpsons.”

The former graphic designer followed his inclination for comedy to The Groundlings comedy troupe where he quickly established himself as a top performer.

This led then to a long career on “Saturday Night Live,” which eventually transitioned into film roles in movies like “Houseguest” and “Jingle All the Way.”

Hartman was just 49 years old when he died.
