Sandra Bullock just announced that she has been fostering and now adopted a three year old little girl!
Sandra has been working on expanding her family for the last three years. In 2010, she adopted Louis, now 5, who will now be a big brother to little Laila (pronounced Lila).
“When I look at Laila, there’s no doubt in my mind that she was supposed to be here,” Sandra told PEOPLE. She adopted the little girl from Louisiana where she was living in foster care.
Louis has been a big part of Laila’s life and Sandra says the two siblings have formed an inseparable bond, “Louis spearheaded this whole journey.”
Sandra admitted that bringing Laila home too a lot of patience and adjusting, “I knew she was scared, and all I wanted was for her to know Louis and I weren’t going anywhere.”
The little girl is also bringing decorative changes to Sandra’s home, she brought “pink and glitter in the house mixed with Legos and Batmans.”
Sandra chose to keep the adoption private as long as possible fearing that the process would be jeopardized by the intensity of her fame. She told PEOPLE that she had a scare after a trip to the emergency room before the adoption was complete. A photographer snapped a photo of her and Louis and shopped it around to several media outlets. With the help of her lawyers, she was able to keep the photo from being published and keep Laila safe.
She now hopes to shed a positive light on adopting from foster care in the United States. In an adorable photo shoot with her kids, taken by her boyfriend, Bryan Randall, a photographer, she shows off her beautiful blended family.
“My family is blended and diverse, nutty, and loving and understanding,” she says. “That’s a family.”
