Monty Brinson, the 57-year-old ex-husband of reality star Kim Richards passed away this weekend after a long battle with cancer.

The death was confirmed by Richards’ brother, Rick Hilton, on Instagram.

Hilton, father of socialites Paris and Nicky Hilton, remembered his former brother-in-law as a kind man.

“We have lost Monty Brinson after a brave battle with cancer,” Rick wrote.

“His heart was a big as the moon and he was loved by all he met. He will be sorely missed. I love You always!”

According to TMZ, Brinson had been living with Richards in recent years as he battled cancer, and some of his health problems may have contributed to Richards’ own addictive behavior.

Three days before his death, Brinson took to his own Instagram account to ask his friends and followers to share any memories they have with him, and to ask that they never forget about their experiences with him.

“Today I know a lot of people that follow me my wish that you would send a short message of a time we spent together that you will not forget about us and our friendship,” Brinson wrote.

Throughout her time on “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” Monty championed Richards, especially when the media would criticize her for her much publicized alcoholism.

“Without going into detail 90 per-cent of what you read is completely false,” Monty wrote alongside a photo of the two from their younger days, in 2015.

“Remember everyone in life goes through a rough time one way or another. I always say know the facts before being judgmental.”

Monty and Kim were married from 1985-1988.
