Professor Anson recently taught us a lesson about our planets, explaining the differences in their size, terrain and temperature.

Here’s what we learned today:

  • Ceres: A small dwarf planet located in the asteroid belt has a rocky surface and craters.
  • Mercury: The smallest planet in our solar system also has a rocky surface. It’s the first planet from the sun and is the second hottest planet.
  • Mars: Mars is the second smallest planet. It’s known as the red, rocky planet. It’s the fourth planet from the sun and gets it red color from its land and atmosphere.
  • Venus: Venus is the fourth smallest planet in our solar system. It’s the second planet from the sun. Even though it’s the second planet, Venus is the hottest planet in our solar system. Its greenhouse gases trap heat, causing the temperature to rise.
  • Earth: Earth is the third planet from the sun and the fifth smallest planet. It’s known as the “life planet,” and according to Anson, Earth is “the awesomest planet.”
  • Neptune: Neptune is the fourth largest planet in our solar system. It’s the last, or eighth planet from the sun and is the second coldest planet.
  • Uranus: Uranus is third largest planet in our solar system. It’s the seventh planet from the sun and is the coldest, because it has no atmosphere.
  • Saturn: The second largest planet in our solar system. It’s the sixth planet from the sun.
  • Jupiter: Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system.
