In the iconic television classic, Zombo was Eddie Munster’s favorite TV personality. In the second season of the series, Eddie’s father Herman Munster becomes jealous of how much Eddie loves Zombo and then attempts to win back his son’s undivided attention. The episode dedicated to this theme is of course titled “Zombo” and the original Zombo was played by the late Louis Nye.

“After 56 years! The man… the myth… the legend returns!,” Zombie wrote on Instagram.

In Zombie’s movie, Jeff Daniel Phillips plays Herman Munster with Sheri Moon Zombie playing matriarch Lily Munster. Daniel Roebuck co-stars as Grandpa Munster.

Richard Brake (31, 3 from Hell) plays Dr. Henry Augustus Wolfgang. Catherine Schell (Space: 1999, The Return of the Pink Panther) is playing “Zoya Krupp the gypsy queen.”

Dee Wallace, Cassandra “Elvira” Peterson and Jorge Garcia will also star.

Zombie embarks in new territory for The Munsters movie, and he announced not long ago that his take on The Munsters will not be what we are used to seeing from him. Zombie has said he’s planning to be very conservative and true to the wholesome and mild content of the original series, There will be no gore – a substantial breakaway from his previously rated-R films; his Munsters movie will have a PG rating.

The Munsters debuted in 1964 and aired for just two seasons on CBS, totaling 70 episodes. The show is a satire of American suburban life, and it found a larger audience in syndication after production of the show had ended.

The original TV show The Munsters is currently airing on Peacock. The Munsters movie – under Zombie’s direction – is set to be released later this year.
